First Day
Alas, the first day back is over. There aren't going to be too many more of these first days, so perhaps as the Dave did, I'll recall some of my first days of school:
Montessori preschool: I remember the coat closet, and the teacher's husband (school was held at the teacher's house) was really really tall. He helped me put my coat away, and the second my teacher showed me all the fun shapes and drawing things in the back of the room, I was ready for this thing called school!
Elementary School: Nothing memorable other than the frightening end--I forget which bus number was mine, so when my teacher asked me, I told her only one of the numbers. She accidentally put me on the wrong bus home (no surprise, thanks to my 5 year old brilliance) and my parents nearly had a heart attack as they waited for me at the bus stop and I never showed up. Luckily at the end of the bus route we went back to the school bus depot or wherever we were, and I was able to call home, and then I had my own little bus (well, I shared it with another girl that was placed on the wrong bus home) and got dropped off right at my door.
Middle School: I didn't even make it through my first day. Walking out to lunch I tripped down the cement steps and broke and dislocated (in a very ugly way) my finger. Yeah. My full first day was the second day of school. Very dissapointing, particularly because my trip to the dr. was one of the scariest moments of my child-life. His name was Dr. Charmonte, but my family called him Dr. Char-molte-pain. I'll never forget him saying to me (with a huge needle in his hand) "if you act like a baby, I'll have to send your parents out of the room"...um, I was 10 years old, and my mom was just about to pass out because she was freaked out too. Sigh....
High School: I don't remember much about this first day, although I remember thinking that it might be my last day on earth, as my first days of school had been traumatizing in increasingly exponential ways. I survived. I was ecstatic.
1st College: I remember moving in, and the guys helping us out told both my roommate and I seperately that we had the most things they'd ever seen. And then they realized we were living in the same room. Haha.
2nd College: I remember attempting to be as friendly and bubbly as possible, figuring that I should be trying to quell the nerves of all the first time freshmen. I met Rachel Y ("Bug") my first evening, and we became fast friends.
IU: I remember waiting in front of the recital hall (realizing that studying more for exams wasn't going to change a thing), meeting Adonis, Ryan, Natalie, Amanda, and Todd. I remember meeting Susan outside of the piano exam, and being shocked that I passed--she was so sweet about my nerves beforehand and excitement afterwards--and pizza ensued just a few days later!
